On my first day at Retro, back in 2018, I learned that I would have the honor of working on a complete graphical overhaul of the original Metroid Prime. As the lone UI artist on the project, I was responsible for all UI visuals in the entire game. This included crafting all of the HUDs, overseeing work on the face reflection and helmet, and art directing the Thermal and X-Ray fullscreen visor effects. This project was a dream come true for me as a huge Metroid fan, and I hope that I achieved my mission of recreating Samus's visors as it exists in all of our memories of our first time playing the game. Big thanks to the UI team and to everyone at Retro who helped us along the way.
Bringing Samus's classic visor and HUDs to life once more was a dream come true, and being able to work on the Thermal and X-Ray screen effects was just icing on the cake.
I also worked on some of the holograms in the game. This giant screen found in the game's opening is my favorite.
